If this Ind圜ar partnership goes down in a similarly harmonious fashion, everyone will benefit. Motorsport Games has been strangely cooperative with its stewardship of the NASCAR licence, allowing the eNASCAR iRacing series to coexist alongside its more console-targeted, casual-friendly Heat series. That in and of itself wouldn’t be a problem, if it didn’t become the only game in town.

At the moment, there’s no reason to think a new game developed by another team could deliver an experience of similar quality. Project Cars 3 once again delivers what most fans love about the franchise: a big mix of officially licensed racing cars, from GT over Ind圜ar to classic race cars from past decades. But iRacing has cultivated a consistent, rewarding platform for accurate sim racing many people have flocked to over the years. Slightly Mad Studios and Bandai-Namco published a new promotion trailer for their upcoming Project CARS 3 title and revealed a preliminary car and track list. It abandons the sim racing sensibilities and adopts a radically different. Now, I should state that my own opinion of the game isn’t favourable. Project CARS 3 is a racer so fundamentally different from its immediate forerunners it’s bordering on unrecognisable. An unedifying situation for a franchise that was once so full of promise. The not so good news is that as part of this agreement, Motorsport Games will also inherit “exclusive esports rights.” Those rights “may kick off as early as this year.” Having seen the way that Motorsport Games recently made it very difficult for iRacing to run a 24 Hours of Le Mans-type event, I imagine iRacers who prefer to drive Ind圜ar in that sim are going to be sceptical of this news. Project CARS 3 was released at the end of August 2020 to cries of foul play and much derision.
